Deskjet 970 Cxi
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a new Windows 10 PC, but cannot find the driver for my printer - Deskjet 970 Cxi.

On previous PCs which were Windows 7, I had a drivers and when updating to Windows 10 the printer works fine.

Is it possible to get the old driver?

Thanks for your response.

I tried the steps suggested, but they did not work - the printer was not directly connected to the new PC.  Your suggestion, however, did give me the idea to do the following:

1.  Connect printer directly to PC - in this case via USB - and try to install new local printer.

2.  Windows 10 recognised a new USB device and successfully installed - this included a large number of older HP device drivers that were not previously available.

3.  Connect printer to original device.

4.  Install network printer using the device driver(s) discovered at step 2.

Thank you for your help.

Hello @PMRo,

Thanks for showing your interest in the HP Forums! I see that you need the drivers for Windows 10. I would like to help.

There aren't any drivers and software to download for this model, you have to use the preinstalled Windows drivers.

I have provided some steps for installing a Generic driver.

  • Go to Devices and Printers.
  • Click on Add Printer and follow the steps.
  • Select the HP Deskjet 9800 Class Driver from the list.
  • Select the correct port. (USB)
  • If the printer isn't listed, click on the Windows Update button on that window and search again.

If you have any issues, try the HP Deskjet PCL3 Class Driver.

Let me know if those steps worked for you. If they did, that’s awesome! Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers! Good Luck!
