Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi, My printer will not print and says it is out of paper when it is not. Also the menu for printing appears to have suddenly simplified. I have looked at all the possible problems as identified on hp website, nothing works so please do not tell me to go there. This has happened before. Last time I found a reply on the web which worked but I cannot find it again. It pointed me to changing the printer driver to a driver for another hp model which will work fine with Envy 5540 and this solved the problem. Please can anyone  tell me which other printer driver will work? Thanks

Hi! @Seta1516, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues printing from your printer and you are getting an error out of paper.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Please try performing a hard reset on your printer and check if it helps.

Follow these steps in the order presented to reset the printer.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot out of paper issues.

Please let me know the outcome.

Have a beautiful day ahead! 🙂
