HP ENVY 4520
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and older

I have just bought a new HP ENVY 4520 all-in-one printer. I tried to set it up last night and failed.

I have managed to connect the printer wirelessly to my internet. But I cannot set up the printer on my Mac computer. I have downloaded the HP Easy Start software but when I attempt to  set it up, it gets as far as the Connect page of the software and tells me "no devices can be found".

I have managed to use the App on my phone to connect my phone to the printer and managed to print from that this morning, but I'm still having problems with my Mac. Any ideas? The reviews for this product told me the setup for it was easy - it is proving very frustrating and far from easy.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

The printer software supports mac OS 10.8 and newer.  If your OS is version 10.5 or lower, that's the reason why it's not able to find the device.  Here's the link for mac OS 10.8:

Hope that helps!

Hi

Thanks for your response. My Mac operating system is Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), so I don't think that is the problem.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,

Can you try this:

macOS 10 12 Sierra: Adding a printer using IP address

It's a different OS but the steps should be similar.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your post. I followed the steps and tried this but it didn't work. So far I have been unable to download and install the printer software because when I am trying to connect to the printer during the HP Easy Start, it tells me that it cannot find any device. I can see that it is not possible to have a live chat except between 8.30am and 6pm - what about those people who work full time? I bought this product because I was told it was easy to set up. I have currently spent 6 hours on it and have got nowhere. Sorry to rant at you, but I don't seem to be able to contact HP!
