Is there an update for the HP Envy 4500 all-in-one for El Capitan? Don't want to upgrade the OS until there is one.

Yes,
The printer can be installed via Apple Software Update.
Follow these steps to install its drivers via ASU:
http://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c04510394
Next install the HP Easy Scan app which adds full functionality for your printer:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-easy-scan/id967004861?mt=12

Thank you for the info on the HP EasyScan app. I am now able to scan. I have not been able to use the scan function with my HP Envy 4500 since installing OS X Yosemite. The problem persisted now that I have installed El Capitan.
I still have another problem. I installed a new ink cartridge today (the first I have installed since installing El Capitan and the previous OS update) and now I cannot print. I printed the alignment page after inserting the new cartridge, put the alighmentn page on the glass and pressed the "scan" button on the printer, but the printer shows an endless loop of failed scans. It won't print anything but the aligment page until the alignment process is completed.
I have tried removing and reinstalling the printer, restarting the computer, shutting down and restarting the printer, etc., but nothing works after wasting a couple of hours of attempts. The HP EasyScan app does not apply in the case of printer alignment.
Any ideas?

did you get an answer or find a solution to your printing problem? I am experienceing the same thing today! I changed the ink cartridge and now it won't print. if you received an answer please share 🙂
