HP OfficeJet 4650
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We are using Horizon 7 virtual desktops.

I am able to print to the HP, but I cannot open the HP 4650 software to get the scanner software installed because it keeps telling me it cannot see my printer.  I have tried both USB and wireless.    When I hit the SCAN button on the printer itself, it sees the virtual desktop, but it cannot connect - I am guessing because the scanner software was never installed because for some reason the installer it will not see the printer!

I have found I can right click on the printer in Devices and Printers and select SCAN, and that will work.

This is not going to be easy for our users.   We have over 50 remote people that will be using this printer with their VM.  I

Why won't the installer package see the printer is connected when it clearly is.

Is there somewhere that I can just get the scanner software and install it?

@vjwebb3,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to scan from your HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer to your virtual desktops.

This issue has occurred because the scanning software cannot communicate directly from the printer to the virtual machines.

Hence, the only option is right click on the printer in Devices and Printers and select Scan.

You may check with VMware if there is any such option.

You have a good day ahead.

The issue is that I cannot even install the HP scanning software.  Your installer is not seeing the printer.  VM sees it because I can print to it from any application and it can see the scanner if I right click on the machine.

I want to be able to INSTALL the HP Scan software - but your installer is not letting me do that because your installer says the printer is not connected when it is.

@vjwebb3,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the HP software installer package does not detect the printer.

This issue could occur if the wireless wizard is not run or the USB port is not working.

Please follow the links below to setup the printer:

1. Wireless Printer Setup

2. Download and Install a Driver for a USB Connection

Also, let us know how you are connecting the printer to the computer.

Let me know if this works.

You have a good day ahead.
