Deleting the drivers did indeed resolve the issue. My only outstandign question was about he necessity or otherwise of assigning a static IP address.
If you could respond to that query then I would appreciate it.

Assigning a static IP address is a workaround step and has fixed these kinds of issue many times for our customers. It ensures that the printer is constantly connected to the network and the connectivity is not lost.
