I tried uninstalling my HP printer 2480, as I was missing a bit of software after accidentily deleting it, and thought if I uninstall everything I could then reload the software and drivers from the HP website. This failed. Whatever I tried it was impossible to uninstall. I even did a systyem restore, which indeed brought back what was there before - but with the 'Missing TrayApp.Msi.' message every time I turn on the computer.  If indeed I am missing the trayapp (not sure what it is) how do I simply reinstall it. I followed one path that seemed so incredibly complicated I gave up and nearly threw the printer away (it was quite cheap but vert effective), as it was taking hours and hours of my time to resolve. The reason not to is the thought that the same error message would still keep appearing because I cannot uninstall the printer.

I am now on Windows 8.1, but seem to remember that with Windows Seven I put the disc in and it simply asked would I like to replace the installation. One click and it was done. Why is it now so difficult? I would rather not reboot the computer for obvious reasons but surely there must be a simple solution - help?

Hey Pickwoad,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

For the error of TrayApp.MSI, this is part of the printer software that is missing. I would suggest trying to install the new software over top of what is left. I have included the link to 'HP Deskjet F2400 All-in-One series Full Feature Software and Driver'.

Please let me know if you are able to successfully install the printer software again. As well if you are still getting the TrayApp.MSI error.

Looking forward to hearing from you. 🙂

All went swimmingly until configure system stalled and I got endless messages about TrayApp. The next thing was an error check. I continued the process until it started to become so complicated that I gave up ( I was here before). All I want to do is either uninstall the software and put it back in or have a 'simple' solution. I hate to say this but if this contunues I will be forced to get another printer and just let the sofware and drivers for HP stand idle in my programmes. This is not what I want, but I need an effective printer to scan and copy as well.

Hello Richard,

At this point, you will need to repair, or install the trayapp software. Please follow the steps below.

From the desktop screen

1. Press the Windows key, and the letter R
2. Type %temp%
3. Press Enter, or click OK
4. Open the 7z folder
5. Open the Setup folder
6. Open the trayapp folder
7. Right click on the TrayApp Installer
8. Click Repair.

Note: If you get an error message about repairing the TrayApp Installed, right click on the TrayApp Installer again, and this time select install.

After this, try installing the software again.

Are you able to successfully install the software after this, or are you still getting the error message.

Thank you. 🙂

I followed your instructions until I realised that it would not work with Chrome. When I set Internet Explorer as my default browser things continued. I went through the list of 7z files until I found the trayapp installer. All was fine. After a restart I download the software from the link you gave me. Gosh, I thought this might just work - but - when it came to configure system the same error messages occur and everything stops. For a seemingly simple thing this seem mighty complicated. If you work for HP please pass on that not all of us are IT specialists and degree of simplicity would be much appreciated. I would hate to ditch my HP printer for the sake of a bit of software, but I am fast approaching that position. Why is it so difficult to just uninstall everything like other programmes and start again?

In the meantime thank you for your help so far, it is much appreciated

Hi Richard,

Download the following utility :

ftp://ftp.aca.nl/Microsoft/msicuu2.exe

This will install Microsoft Office Cleanup. Once completed installation, you will need to search for Windows Installer Cleanup. After the program is open, you will need to run the Cleanup utility. Once the utility has compiled a list of applications, you will need to find, and highlight TrayApp. After highlighting TrayApp, click on remove, and then exit the program. The final step will be to restart your computer.

Are you still getting the TrayApp error after this?

Same problem. I get to the end of the process and it fails. Surely HP has a simple way of uninstalling its printer? Its a good job my hair is thinning with age because otherwise I would be pulling it out!

I am trying to uninstall my Photosmart 3210 so I can install a new printer.  However, I keep getting popups (all the time I'm on the computer, which is very annoying), one of which is "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."   Another is "The path C\Users................setup\TrayApp\TrayApp.msi cannot be found.  Verify that you have access to this location or try to find the installation package TryaApp.msi folder from which you can install the product TrayApp."  When I click to close this message, I get one about trying to install TrayApp and the cycle starts all over.  This seems to be residual from my uninstalling the 3210.  How can I clean this out?

Hi neciebez,

I would like to assist you with hopefully getting your old Photosmart 3210 uninstalled. So that I can provide you with specific troubleshooting steps, could you please provide me with the current version of Windows that you are running. If you need assistance in finding the version, I have included the document 'Which Windows operating system am I running?'.

Looking forward to working with you! 🙂
