OfficeJet Pro 8600

Hi, I have just moved my Office Jet Pro 8600 printer from home to my new business with a new Wifi connection. To set up it is saying that I need an Administrator Password to restore settings. Can you please send me the instructions to complete this task (as issued through to others with this problem in this form). Thanks in advance!

Hi @CP17,

Thank you for stopping by the HP forums.  A Good day to you. 🙂 I read the post regarding requiring assistance with the printer being locked and asking for an administrator password.I will be delighted to assist you with this.

Stupendous effort, brilliant description and very smart diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 You are an important HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I also take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For starters I would require more information to assist you better?

  • Have you tried to reset the printer to factory defaults?
  • Did you try to restore network defaults on the printer?

For starters please try to restore network defaults on this printer from this user guide link: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03026243 and check if this does the trick for you. Please visit page# 148 to do this.

Then follow the steps in this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-Pro-8600-e-All-in-One-Printer-series---N9/4322914/m... to connect the printer to the wireless network again. This should do the trick for you.

If it does not, Don’t worry. I will include steps to perform a semi full reset on the printer which resets it to factory settings as a private message. Please keep checking your inbox and private messages.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Hi DavidSMP, Firstly yes I had previously tried to restore factory default but it is locked hence why I requested help with a password or reset to get this up and running.

I then tried to follow your instructions on the private message but I couldnt get past point 1. When I press and hold the power button it shuts the printer down. There is no light highlighting the BL button for me to press. I tried doing it the other way (turning it on and holding for 5 seconds) but it just shuts down again. Please help ASAP as I need to be able to use this printer to conduct my business 🙂
