HP Officejet 6830 all in one
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hi,

I have a 6830 all in one printer where the scanner worked fine on a windows laptop. I've just upgraded to a MacBook Air with macOS Sierra. The printer works find but the scanner isn't recognised.

I've uninstalled and restalled everything including all updates and HP Easyscan but still no luck.

Wireless connection.

Thanks

Hello, @andymc112 – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome you to HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.

I see that you are having issues while scanning with the Officejet 6830 on you MAC Sierra. Let’s try the steps below to fix this issue:

  • Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  • Also, uninstall the HP easy scan.
  • Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
  • Restart your computer and printer.
  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL54368/bi-131213-2/HP-Officejet-Pro-6830_v12.36.0.dmg to download and install the printer drivers.
  • In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
  1. Click the “Add button” (+).
  2. Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  3. Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Now, go to applications - HP / Hewlett Packard - HP Scan - try scanning and see if it works.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Hi,

I've gone through the process several times but the problem hasn't been resolved.

I see my printer under 'printer & scanners' but not the scanner itself - I don't have a print or scan option.

It worked perfectly on my old Windows laptop.

Any advice please?

Thanks,

Andy

@andymc112

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate you taking your valuable time to troubleshoot.

As Dvortex is out of office, I'd like to assist you further. I read that you have installed the correct drivers for Mac Sierra and still the scan does not work.

I suggest you can try to use the HP Easy Scan app or even the Apple Image Capture and also run the Apple Software update. Please refer this link for more information.

Let me know what happens. All the best! 🙂
