HP Officejet Pro 8500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP officejet pro 8500 printer, that works great.  However, when downloaded Windows 10 I have had nothing but problems with printing.   My printer message keeps asking me to turn-off my printer power and then turn it on.  It goes throught the full cycle of setup and then asks me to do the same thing.  I'm told that it is a driver issue, but when I tried the HP drivers update for Windows 10, it doesn't list my printer.  I tried to reload the original cd that came with my printer and then I was told that Windows 10 won't talk to my old CD for the printer.  HELP  I just need to get my printer to work.

Greetings @TriciaG,

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are facing an issue with your printer after upgrading to Windows 10. Don't worry, I will be glad to assist you.

May I know how is the printer connected to your computer?

Are you able to make a copy on the printer?

Copy function of a printer is independent of the software on the computer.

If you are unable to make a copy, please do hard reset (disconnect the power cable of the printer, wait for a minute and connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and turn the printer ON.)

If the printer still does not make a copy after a hard reset. Please contact our phone support for the service or upgrade options for the printer.

When the setup disc was made Windows 10 was not available, hence you are unable to use it on your computer running on Windows 10.

If you are able to make a copy, please uninstall the printer software using the method mentioned below.

Uninstall the printer from programs and features from the control panel. (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Update the firmware on the printer using the control panel on the printer. (Will require the printer to be connected to your wireless network.)

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer. Full feature software for your printer is available for Windows 10 on our website.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know if this helped.
