I wanted to print a photo, so changed main tray to photo tray, photo paper, 4x6, clicked  print and it would come up with this discription," Photo tray was changed because of a conflict with another pinter setting."  I have no idea how it has been changed. thank you.

I tried what you said, and nothing happened.  I finally just unplugged everything for 30 seconds, replugged, and now it works.

Hey there! @Jacquemk, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand that the photo tray on your printer changed due to a conflict now the tray is not getting recognized.

Don't worry I would like to help.

Please provide the exact model of your printer.

What is the operating system you are running on your PC?

Keep the paper in photo tray and remove other papers from the tray and try to perform a copy and check whether your printer is able to make the copy.

Also, download and run print and scan doctor on your PC if you are running windows.

Refer this article to know how to use print and scan doctor.

If the issue still persists refer this document to further troubleshoot photo tray issues.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

OK....I want to print a 4x6 photo on my HP Envy 5540 printer.  I use windows 10.  Just installed the new printer..everything works well except the photo tray printing.  I get a popup msg on  my computer which says: photo tray was changed because of a conflict with another printer setting....I have no other printers connected  with my computer.

I am having the same problem. i'm using a HP Envy 5541 and Windows 10. Will not keep the setting I enter for photo printing, ie borderless printing and HP photo tray. Says it is due to a conflict with another printer setting.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93

If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Let me know if this helps.
