Scanning problems

I have troubles to scan from my printer to my iMac, to print a page isn't the problem but when I want to scan a document the printer turn idle and do not scan. I have a wireless connection between the two devices. Do I miss a driver/program??

I have remove and install the printer several times and still don't work.

I suddenly lost ability to scan with my 45oo series printer scanner.  Prints fine..  Using HP scan like I used to the documetn scans but does not save. Tried easy scan app and also apple image capture to no success. Both do show the printer but no other action occurrs.  I think this happened after latest Sierra update.  Spent a good bit of time with apple and some on phone with HP  No success.  I have read a number of on line forums were others have this issue even with new printer scanners.  I have a 4 month old mac book that used to work with scanner
