cp1518ni
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I had to reinstall the drivers for my cp1518ni printer.  With the original driver, there were several Printing Shortcuts predefined, including "General Everyday Printing", as well as a few I defined.  Each Printing Shortcut allowed me to specify color: Yes/No.   The new driver doesn't offer this option on the shortcuts tab.   Without it, I have to go to the Color tab, or I have to create different versions of each shortcut for color and B&W.   Inconvenient.  So I wonder where the option went, or if there is an older version of the driver available somewhere.  Or are there new features of the newer version which I might find useful.

My computer runs Win 7 (64bit) .  The new driver is "HP Universal Printing PS (v6.4.1)", connected to my LAN.   I've also tried the current PS5 and PS6 drivers, with the same result.

Hi @jb-ssi

You can try doing a driver roll back and check whether you can go back to the previous version of the driver.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Right-click the device for which you want to roll back to the previous version of the driver, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Drivers tab.
  4. Click Roll Back Driver.
  5. In the Driver Package rollback dialog box, click Yes.

Hope that answers your question.

Hi @jb-ssi

Welcome to the HP Forums!

It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.

I reviewed your post and I understand that with the new printer driver you are unable to create predefined shortcuts for printing.

I’d love to help!

I would like to inform you that you need to make the changes in the color tab to print in black or color and this is how the driver is designed. Please refer to the below document for more information on print settings.

Thanks The_Fossett, for your quick response.

Am I mistaken in thinking that the Color/B&W switch was on the presets tab in a previous version of the driver?   If so, can I get that version?  If not, ... Oh, well ...

Thanks The_Fossett for your efforts to fix my problem.

Yesterday I discovered that the current driver, "upd-ps-x64-6.4.1",  had a much worse problem than I first reported to you:  Colors printed dramatically wrong!

I was unable to get the roll-back procedure you sent me to work.   A real pickle!   I fiddled around, tearing my out my hair, for many hours, until  I finally found a solution.  Which was very easy to implement, once I came across it.

I deleted the printer from the "devices and printers" control panel, and used  "Add a printer" to put it back.  In the "install the print driver" panel, I picked "Manufacturer: HP" and scrolled up through the very long list of printers  to "HP Color LasarJet CP1510 Series PCL 6" .  That was the one I used to have, and it works now as it did then -- i.e. With the color select toggle on the  presets tab, and with colors printing correctly.  A great sigh of relief.

Note that the "HP Univeral Printing PCL 6, " PCL 5, and " PS" drivers near the bottom of the list did not work.   Nor did the" HP PCS 1500 Series" driver.  The one I needed was almost at the the top of the long list.

Maybe my experience should be retitled to something like "Current Drivers for CP1518ni are boken  -- Solved" so that others with the same problem might find it in the users forum.
