Hi @Kevinjuan,

Thank you for stopping by the HP forums.  A Good day to you. 🙂 I read the post about the printer’s software not getting installed. I will be delighted to assist you with this.

A stupendous effort, brilliant description and very smart diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 You are an important HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I also take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did you try the installation from the printer CDs or from the software downloaded online?
  • Did you try the built-in printer drivers?

This issue could be an operating system related issue or a printer driver issue.

Please perform these steps to completely uninstall the software.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.

Then clear the temp files and prefetch files also.

  • Steps: press windows key and letter “R”
  • Windows + R
  • Then type the word “temp” in the box.
  • Press ok and select all the files in the folder and delete it.
  • Please type the word “%temp%” again and repeat the same steps
  • Then do the same by typing the word “prefetch” in the run window.
  • Some files may not get deleted. Ignore those files.

Then please install the full feature software from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-OfficeJet-4650-All-in-One-Printer-series/5447930/... Please select the operating system and follow the on-screen instructions. This should do the trick for you.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

Hi David, Thank you for the swift reply.

I tried both the CD and downlaod from HP several times without success.

Each time I cleaned / removed the software I re-booted.

I have followed your instructions.

This still hasn't worked. I still get the same error message.

"Call to driver packageinstall returned error - 536870141 for package ' C:\ Program Files\HP\HP ENVY 4520 series\Driverstore\NGScanDriver\HPWia_EN4520.INF'

To clarify, I can print ok but it is the scanner software that does not load.

Regards,

Kevin.
