I just installed the latest software for an OfficeJet 7210 on my freshly installed Windows 7 (32-bit) system. I'm monitoring network usage of svchost.exe (HPZ12) in the resource monitor and observe a burst of 10 Kbps worth of traffic every second. This traffic is strictly between the system and the OfficeJet 7210. Furthermore, shutting down the "HP Network Devcies Support" service eliminates this traffic.

I've been working in the networking industry for 26 years and never seen the need for a software package to use the network in this manner, especially when the software is in a quiescent state (i.e., I'm not doing anything involving the OfficeJet 7210, I'm not even using the HP Director software, or any other software that may have a need to communicate with the OfficeJet 7210). I understand the need for the software to periodically poll the OfficeJet 7210 for its availability and status, but a 10 Kbps burst of traffic every one second seems overdone.

Thus, I'm looking for a means of configuring the polling rate. I looked into all the software setting, but cannot find anything obvious. However, I am quite capable of changing the registry, a .INI file, or a some XML-based configuration file. Can anyone at HP help me with this problem?

Is someone that works at HP going to respond to this post?

I have five systems in my house generating an unnecessary amount of traffic for the sole purpose of monitoring the status of our printer. It's a home printer, not a nuclear missile silo or mission critical server responsible for handling stock market transactions.

I was totally unsatisified by the technical support I received when I called, and so far I'm less than satisified by the amazing responsiveness to this forum. If this quality of service embodies "HP Total Care" and given the experience I have had (which has been less than lack luster) with this printer, then I suppose I should start shopping for a new printer vendor. I bought my first printer from HP in 1990, followed by a string of various printers for my home and businesses--while the experience started out well, each successive purchase was met with increased disappointment.

HP, my interest is more then a "place to connect and collaborate in a conversation".  I am interested and want a response and fix to the svchost.exe (HPZ12) generating high traffic.  I could restore to a point before the update. Whacha gonna do HP?

Same issue here. HPZ12 constantly dominates my network stream

I have seen 2 systems in my store with this issue in the last month. I am sorry HP has been unable to provide a response to resolve your situations. Here is what My staff and I have done to resolve this error. Please be extremely cautions when doing anything in the system management menu (MSCONFIG) as serious damage to your computer can result from mismanagement of the menu.

1.Start menu

2. Run

3. Type in "MSCONFIG"

4. Click the "Services" Tab

5. Check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft services"

6. Scroll down to the HPZ12 and un-check the box.

7. Click "Apply".

8. Click "OK".

9. Click "Exit without restarting".

10. Go to the Start Menu on the desktop

11. Click the "Control Panel"

12. Find and click on "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features".

13. Un-install all the Bloatware associated with the HP printer install. (The software will be different based on the Printer Make and Model.Check the install disks which came with your printer to determine which ones.)

14. Restart the Computer.

Amazingly that after so many years the same stinking problem  appears,
meaning that HP is a troublemaker Gorilla that never stops harming people.
