I have a Toshiba P850 series with windows 8 and have installed the hp Photosmart 7520 e I just bought. I downloaded the complete dirver and software drivers for this printer from HP (installed it 5 times), when I double click on the shortcut, or the actual file it opens a panel that has Printer Assistant, See whats printing, customize printer or set preferences. all work EXCEPT the Pirnter Assistant. When I try to open it all I get is the HP note pad with the following:

Download the file, and then right click on the file to extract the contents from the zip file. Once you have the file Fix_hta.reg extracted you will just need to double click on the file to update the registry with the information in the file.
What operating system are you using?

I am using Windows 8 on a Toshiba P850 series laptop. I downloaded the latest driver from HP. Dumb question, if you work for HP why don't you talk them into putting out an upgrade to the windows 8 driver to fix this problem?? anyway I hope this will help with fixing my problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi joesabeh,
The issue you are having has to do with a file association problem in the operating system. If you run the reg key i provided this will resolve the file association issue you are seeing when you try opening the HP Printer Assistant. Let me know what you find out?

what you sent me does not RUN. it just open is a notepad and I can see it is some kind of programming but it does not run so I am stuck. I am beginning to think the best thing for me to do is take the HP printer back and get a Lexmark printer, at least I know they work.....thanks for trying.

Hi joesabeh,
Please be patient while i verify this reg key works on my Win 8 computer, and if not i will create one that will work on Win 8. Get back to you soon.
