I recently purchased this printer. I have set it up to print wirelessly. I have installed and uninstalled it twice b/c after about three times printing wirelessly, it stops printing wirelessly. Here is the order of events.
1) Install software according to directions
2) Print test page wirelessly, that always works
3) print other stuff the same day wirelessly (works fine)
4) Attempt to print something wirelessly like 2-3 days later
5) It doesn't work. Get message from HP Solution Center staing the obvious: Document failed to print (duh). Go through troubleshooting (Windows help). This tells me to make sure it is the default printer (it is) then check if it is online. It usually isnt. So I select to make the printer go online (which is a subquestion, and I am sure is related to the problem, why does it keep automatically going offline??)
6) Attempt to print
7) Message pops up saying HP Photosmart C309g-m disconnected (Solution Center)
8) Read troubleshooting advice (HP Solution Center), which tells me to connect via the USB to print (which annoys me because there is no solution available that tells you how to restablish a wireless communication between printer/router/computer)
9) Which I did the first time around, but find that once I connect using the USB, it prints fine. Any attempt to go back to printing wirelessly results in steps 7 and 8
10) Check the wireless connection of the printer requesting network printout. Shows that the printer is connected fine wirelessly. I know that my laptop is on the same network b/c it's the only one I have and my internet connection is not interrupted in any way.
11) Get frustrated, uninstall and reinstall printer
Repeat from step 2.
This has happened twice already, and I purchased it so that I COULD print wirelessly. There has got to be abetter solution thatn uninstalling and reinstalling the printer everytime this happens (so far once a week).
I have one laptop, one printer, and one wireless router.
own a Belkin G+ MIMO Wireless Router
I own a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop
I own a HP Photosmart Premium C309g (purchased less than 2 weeks ago)
I do not turn off the router or printer. Rarely I turn off the laptop. Resetting the router in the past did not help. Turning off and on the printer/laptop in the past did not help.
Questions:
1) How I stop printer from going offline on my laptop
2) How do I restablish communiucation between printer and laptop on the wireless network?
3) How do I keep the communication between laptop and printer (and I guess router) from going bye-bye?
Thanks
Kenya

Have you set a static IP address (or reserved an IP address for the printer)? After the printer goes to sleep and wakes up, the router may give it a different IP address and the software has a hard time finding it.
Need help?

Regarding what you suggest, the IP address has remained the same throughout installations and removals.
However, I may have figured it out. I guess the wireless connection on the printer times out. I went back in the office and looked at my network settings. I needed to "find" my wireless signal again. The first time I refreshed it, my wireless name did not show up. I refreshed it again and POOF! there it was!! So i selected it and put in my passkey (I think its WPA encryption). When it finished connecting to the wireless network, it printed out a network status page. Since I have printed out that page so many times already I happened to have an old one on my desk . I noticed that the IP address was the same ( even though by today I have uninstalled and reinstalled it again) on both forms. Anyway, when I came back to my computer, (which is in my living room) the HP help center had a giant green check on it and said that the printer was connected. Then I printed something and it worked! YAY!!!! It sure would be great if HP put in infomration about how to reconnect wirelessly when you get that "Printer is not connected" message. Who knows maybe I needed to vent to figure it out! lol
So for everyone out there, if this happens to you:
1) Go to your printer
2) Select the arrow key to see the next menu. (it should be on the right side of the LCD panel, looks like a sideways triangle)
3) Select Setup --> Network --> Wireless Network Wizard
4) The printer will begin to look for wireless networks
5) Choose your network (or the network that you use.. It should be the same one your laptop/computer is on)
6) If it is password protected, enter the passkey/password
7) Your printer will print out a network status page.
8) Your computer should "recognize" the printer on the network on its own. Your HP help window may display a large green check (thats a good thing!)
9) Print what you desire!
* Note I guess you may have to do this everytime your printer goes into sleep mode. Its not that annoying!

My printer does a similar thing, though the IP address it changes itself to is not even on the subnet I use. And, well, I do find this extremely annoying. I'm using a MacBook Pro with Time Capsule router.

We're having a problem completing the one time initialization on our photosmart premium C309. The display panel reads "Insert regular piece of paper and press ok"; we do this, get a red X on the panel, the paper feeds through, the initialization times out and nothing happens. Nothing prints. The paper doesn't advance all the way. The initialization and alignment never complete. This is our 2nd printer in a week. The first one had broken pieces.

If the printhead and ink cartridges are installed correctly, try resetting the printer by turning it off, unplugging power from the rear of the printer, waiting 30 seconds and re-applying power. Now try it.
If it fails again, you may have another faulty printer.

I have the same problem as you with my Photosmart Premium C309g. When I go into my laptop, which is wireless as well as my printer, I got an error message in 'HP Printer Solutions' that has a big yellow exclamation point and it tells me that my printer is disconnected. My goal is to get this to work so that I can successfully use the scanner.
I then read your post and followed all of your great steps to go to my printer and re-establish my wireless internet connection and it was not connected, so now it connected successfully. Still I get the disconnected on my PC. However, I am printing successfully, and can see the levels of my ink cartridges.
Strange thing, when I go to control panel on my windows 7 computer, it shows no printers at all. I even tryed to install there, but it did not show up. When I go into 'devices and printers' it shows my laptop, printer, mouse.

I am having the same issues and this is highly annoying.
I set up the same printer before work, it worked fine - printed a test page and a picture - all wireless. I came home from work and the printer had of course falled to 'sleep'. I"ve tried to use it for 3 days now and it won't work. It can't even find a router. Initial set up it found several routers in the neighborhood and now can't find any, much less mine. I have moved my router to see if it was too close (it was right next to it) and still nothing.
I have followed the steps and rebooted both router and printer several times. Is this going to happen all the time? and if I have to redo the printer each time it sleeps, that is a waste of time and money to pay for a wireless printer. The point should be that I can print from any room in my house, not have to walk into my study to set the printer up. I may work on a project for several hours and need to print every 30 or 45 min. I shouldn't have to set it up each time b/c it went into sleep mode.
Frustrated!!!!

I have the same problem with printer C309g. It's really frustating. I consider bying a new printer because this printer ain't working!!!
I tryed about everything mentioned on the internet to solve the problem, but the printer works still irregularly.
Sometimes is starts printing fine, but then it stops halfway. Sometimes it prints very slowly. And sometimes it starts printing some time after the document is sent to the printer.
Please, can someone help because I really don't know anymore what to do.

Just bought a new C309g to replace my old Photosmare 2610. Was looking forware to the wireless printing, but from trying to use it and seeing how many others are having problems, I have to assume HP didn't get it right. This is an expensive joke.
