What worked?  There were several suggestions.

I'm having all of these same issues and have tried all the troubleshooting, etc.

The printer was working fine this morning and then I ran the driver update and all of a sudden the black ink is not working!

Why isn't anyone from HP helping us out,??? it seems as though this is a common problem for this printer and its updates!

I'm going to find the software that came with the printer and see if that resolves the issue.  I will let you all know what happens.  Keep your fingers crossed 🙂

I was the proud owner of a HP: Officejet 6500 and all of a sudden could not print with the black cartridge.  After going through all the motions already mentioned I gave up.  I needed a printer and went out and purchased a new one.

Good luck to all of those ahead of me.

Remove all the ink cartridges - remove the print head, left lever on right side - use isopropyl alcohol and clean the print surface (metal grids) using Q Tips - re-install print head, then cartridges - Printed perfectly after cleaning

I recently replaced 4 ink cartridges. Now my black ink does not print and maybe others are not printing as well. I do see blue on the page, but none others. Please help!

I have the same problem.  Black ink not printing and this is NOT a alignment or cleaning or new ink issue.  I know this because this is a networked computer.  My windows 7 64 machines all now display this problem, any other computer on my network, including a mac prints fine.
