Hi Jim,

Please can you try my suggestion on your laptop. It seems we were posting at the same time, so perhaps you have yet to try it?

I finally got the software to install correctly on my Windows 8.1 32 bit system. Here is what I did:

1. Stopped all HP processes and the manually deleted every HP directory on the PC found in Program Files, ProgramData, Windows and temp folders - it was a real seek and destroy mission! (not exactly the right way, and the PC was not happy, but it got rid of whatever was the problem). Restart Windows.

2. Checked Windows Update - installed one patch. Restart Windows.

3. I then ran "OJ_AIO_P8500_A909_140_408_Scrubber.exe" which I downloaded from here. In the folder it creates I selected and ran "Uninstall_L4.bat", which unistalls HP software (I had previously run this bat file and it didn't work!!). Restart Windows.

4. I then ran the HP software setup suite. And it worked! My HP A909a now works!

J_Doe,

I tried it.  Failure.  Sorry ...

I went to the feedback section for HP and unloaded on them.

I will see if they respond.

I will try Cameron's technique - on my Windows 8.1 laptop.  It also is not working correctly. The HP Solution Center software will not come up.

I may even try it on my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit laptop and see if it works.

I got a solution!

I ran the scrubber.

Then I ran CCCleaner.

Then I turned off my antivirus.

Then I ran the installation package.

No errors!

I did this in both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

No errors!

Whew!

Why doesn't HP write this stuff up for us to follow?

I solved the problem also. I bought a Canon printer.

Here is the English version of the Fix document.

In addition to the details in this document I would recommend TURNING OFF REALTIME SCANNING when you have MCAFFEE LIVESAFE 2014 installed.
