I am finding issues all over Google sites indicating HP Installer does not comply with Microsoft Installation procedures

I have a Windows 7 system trying to install / uninstall the C309g or 4700 photosmart software. I have tried on my existing laptop and a brand new build of windows 7 on another laptop. I have tried un-installing IE9. Some site indicate incompatibility with IE8, IE8 comes with Windows 7

Common symptoms:

- Can not find file specified (typical folder is 7zS73E6)

- HP Installer Uninstaller has stopped working

The solutions given by the HP expert are not working.

Please provide solutions that work

Hi tdward,

Ok, go into the %temp% folder and rename the 7z folder you have in there to the one is it looking for, and then try installing the printer again. Let me know what you find out?

Which printer are you attempting to install on your system (c309g or 4700)?

How are you attempting to connect the printer to your computer?

My system is Windows 7 x32   My printer is HP Photosmart C6180.  I lost my HP installation when my router was changed. I tried to reinstall but  I get this error message repeatedly.   I followed instructions from  help pages. I have some difficulty with installing some windows updates but the update is Net framework 4 client profile (something like that)  for Windows x64 and I wonder if the installation is unsuccesfull for justified reason because my system is x32. I am not sure if I should insist on installing that update and if at all it has anything to do with my problems of installing the printer.

Please help if possible.

If necessary I shall post the instructions by HP specialist on one of the help sites which I followed.

Hi Christina17,

Follow the steps below, and let me know what happens?

Step one: Clear temp directory

  1. Type %temp% in the run or search for programs and files field
  2. Highlight all the files in this folder, and then press the delete key to delete. If you get a message that the file is in use you will need to skip this file(s).
  3. Continue with Step 2 below

Step two: Downloaded and extracted to your system:

1. Download the full feature software and drivers

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-76229-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=

2. Once the download is finished double click on the file to extract the software.

3. When the installation window opens press the cancel button to stop the installation

4. Type %temp% in the run or search for programs and files field

5. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

6. Right click on the folder, and select Copy

7. Close that window, and all your open windows, and then in the middle of the desktop right click your mouse, and select Paste. This will move the 7z folder to your desktop.

8. Open the 7z folder you just copied to your desktop

9. Open folder Util

10. Open folder CCC

11. Run the uninstall_L4

12. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

13. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools folder under all programs

14. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

 15. Open the 7z folder, and then double click on the Setup.exe file which will be toward the bottom of the open window. Follow the on screen instructions to reinstall your printer.

Let me know if you are able to successfully install the software and driver, and are able to print & scan?

Hi,  thank you for responding.

I did the the temporary files clearing but some of them remained because apparently they were system files and would damage windows and work of the laptop so I skipped those. 6 remained.

Then I installed the All-in- one and the same error came: "...cannot find the file specified"

Hope to hear from you further.

I forgot to add that on Sunday I am going away abroad and leaving my laptop behind.  If by Sunday this issue is not resolved I shall continue after I return home to London on 27 Feb.

Regards

Christina
