After HP Solution Center Upgraded Printer No Longer Communicates

I have an HP Officejet 6500 E709n which was setup and working just fine but the HP Solution Center software wanted to upgrade and when I allowed it was the original CD which I can not find.  I do not understand if all was working before why I now need to connect the laptop back to the printer and have the original CD to finish an upgrade.  The same problem with the connection to the desktop.
