CM1312nfi- Init Permanent Storage

My unit was emitting a continuous "beeping" noise that you would normally hear when pressing a key on the front key pad.

Powered down/up, and then got the infamous "Init Permanent Storage Message".

Was able to get around this by performing an NVRAM reset.

Beeping returned.

Entered the setup menu, and realized that the menus were behaving as if the "up arrow" key was being repeatedly pressed, scrolling menus up- hence the "beeping" sound.

Tried to "unstick" the key- no change.

Diassembled the top keypad assembly.  Removed the board, reseated connections, reinstalled- no change.

Any suggestions?

Re: CM1312nfi- Init Permanent Storage

Is the device able to boot successfully till READY status and able to perform all its supported functions (print, copy, scan)?

Try to power on device while it is disconnected from network, computer or fax connections (stand alone)

If the beeping noise is still present, then you might need to notice if it starts during or after booting process.  This will help to know if the control panel is having any defect.

Re: CM1312nfi- Init Permanent Storage

Forcing through using the NVRAM reset procedure allows the printer to function normally, albeit with the constant "beeping".

The "beeping" commences at the end of the reboot.

Thanx

Control panel defect is the likely cause of this issue.

Re: CM1312nfi- Init Permanent Storage

Agreed- it sounds like a control panel problem.

I swapped out the micro switch for the "up" button, but I am still having the same problem.  Can you suggest anything else?

Thanx

Re: CM1312nfi- Init Permanent Storage

I had another thought- are there any other keys on the control panel that could "stick" and cause the behaviour that I have observed?

  • constant "beeping"
  • if entering a setup menu, the screen scrolls up, as if the "up arrow" key is being pressed

Thanx
