Difficulty printing some PDF documents with HP Photosmart Plus 209a

Sometimes when I try to print PDF documents, one or two sheets will print and then the printer will just turn off.  It turns itself back on and the message window says something like "to avoid damage, use the 'on' button to shut down"  My husband has this same printer and the same thing happens.  I'm running Windows 7, he's running Vista.  Is there a fix? 

Note this does not happen with every PDF, just some.  I've not been able to find a common thread between the ones that print successfully with no problems and the ones that don't.

Nope, that's not it, but thank you for trying!  The error message says that *I* have turned the printer off incorrectly when all I did was attempt to print a PDF document.  I click print, it prints a page or two and then just shuts itself down, restarts itself and then scolds me for turning it off wrong.  Happens to my husband, too, as we try emailing each other the offending document in an attempt to get it printed.  When this snag occurs, neither of us can print.  It does not happen with every PDF document, just select ones and I cannot find what the troublsome documents have in common.  Thanks again!.

What program are using to print the PDF files?

Adobe is what automatically opens when I click on the PDF attachment.

Make sure you a running the latest release.

I checked and am running latest updates. 

Let me add that this has *always* been a problem, ever since I got this printer two years ago.  In fact, I returned my original printer to HP and got a replacement one because of this very issue.  I can print Word, Excel, internet shopping receipts/confirmations, and any other type of file you can think of with *never* an issue.  It only happens when I print certain PDF files.  Not all PDF's.  Some print fine, even big ones.  I just printed several fairly large PDF's earlier this week with absolutely no problems.  And then today my husband had an issue.  He emailed it to me in hopes I could print it for him but the same thing happened to me.  I finally decided to stop putting up with it and actually seek a resolution.  Thank you for trying.  

It's so hard to believe that no one else has had this problem when I've know it to happen to three printers!  Hopefully there is some easy fix out there.

Get yourself a copy of Foxit a free PDF reader and try printing.

Wow!  Installing Foxit fixed the situation perfectly!  I just printed the document I had issues with earlier today and I got all 26 pages!  So it wasn't my printer...it is something weird between Adobe and the printer.  I can't wait to install this on my husband's computer, too.  We both thank you, thank you, thank you so very much for taking the time to troubleshoot this problem!!!!  Have a great day!

I have a MAC and am having serious PDF issues. Floxit doesn't have a Mac program. Any other ideas?? Even if  I try to "print as image" as suggested somewhere else a few pages come out and then it stops. My printer just says it's offline, but if I print a network connection page it says we are good to go. AND I have double checked my router and it also agrees that it is connected to the printer.
