A lot of my design files have an opaque background which my printer does not seem to detect at all... all text is printed but anything on which the opacity has been reduced does not print at all - MOST of the time... every once in a while it will do it but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it happens. I need help figuring this out or I'm returning the **bleep** thing and buying something else!
I'm using a Mac... does this make a difference??

Hello soulsticegirl,
some HP printers automatically set the printjob output according to some variables, such as Print Quality, media, etc, while some software applications will tweak the print job accordingly.
you might be able to help us get a better picture by describing your typical workflow when this occurs (or, doesn't 'occur', in your case
), for example:
-Step-by-Step description from after the moment you turn on the Mac to the moment the paper drops with ink on it.
-What application (or applications) do you see this happen on?
-Do different 'Quality' settings and/or Paper types affect the outcome?
Thank you!

I have not been able to decipher any rhyme or reason to this problem... it actually prints the opaque background on the low settings "fast draft black & white" but does not print it when set to "plain paper, best." I am usually printing directly from PhotoShop Elements v.9 but have also tried printing from Mac's "Preview" application with the same results. I *was* at one time able to print a file with an opaque backdrop successfully so I know it *can* do it, I just cannot figure out why it won't do it most of the time.

Hello soulsticegirl,
I have some ideas on what we might be able to do, however, before we do that, I'd like to ask for two things:
1) Please provide the version of the OS (10.?).
2) If at all possible, attach a test file that contains the opaque background; please ensure no personal/sensitive information is contained or embedded in the file.
-We'll start by looking at this file's internals to rule out the files themselves, then go from there.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks HC, I appreciate your attention to this issue! My OS version is 10.6.8 ...
I'm not certain I am attaching this correctly but this is the file I'm currently having an issue printing (although there have been several other files with which I've had the same problem.)The gray part at the top and bottom of the design does not print, nor does the opaque sun backdrop.
Also, it doesn't matter whether I am printing from the original .psd file or from the .jpg file and the results are the same with different types of paper, and I've printed it on two other printers without any problems.
