I am using an iMac with OS X 10.6.8. A fax sent to me is loaded to an open folder on my desk top. The fax image is white on al black background even tho the original was black on white paper. It prints white on black. How to reverse the image to black on white?

Hey there JLN99. Was this a document you scanned or did it come from an outside source? Depending on what type of file it is (.doc, ,jpg, pdf, etc) would determine on how to inverse the color. Let me know what kind of file it is and I will try and provide you the easiest method to inverse the file.

Ok, a TIFF is a image file. Are you on a Windows computer or Mac? The easiest way to do this on a Windows computer would be to open the image in Paint. Here is a quick step-by-step guide.
1. Open Paint (just type "Paint" in the search program and files form on the start bar)
2. Once image is open hold CTRL then A to select the image.
3. Then right click the image and click "Invert Colors" in the drop down menu.
4. Save the image with the new inverted colors.
This should get your colors inverted. Hope this helps!

I use an iMac OS X 10.6.8. I could not figure out from the menu options what would make the image change from black background to white with black print.

Ok. Well I dont believe you are able to invert colors directly on the printer. Once the image has been saved using that color format, you would have to invert the image on the computer first and then printer the adjusted file.
You can invert colors using Preview. Once you have opened the image in preview if you select "Tools" then "Adjust Color." Here you will be presented with slidered for black and white levels. To "invert" the colors all you need to do is slide the black level slider all the way to the right, then slide the white slider all the way to the left.
Let me know if this works for you!
