Thank you for trying to help me fix this issue, but ....

The automated fix does not open and when I try to use the manual regedit method it claims that the file is not a registry file.

Re: HP Printer Assistant Script Error - Officejet 4620

Hi,

Do the following,

  1. Go to “C:\Program Files\HP\<Printer Model>\Bin\UDC_Files” folder
  2. Look for “localize_1033.json” file and rename it to “localize_1033.json.old”
  3. Look for “tasks.json” file and rename it to “tasks.json.old”
  4. Go to Driver CD or Install Location (whichever is the latest)
  5. Look for Full_x86.cab or Full_x64.cab (OS Dependent – {64bit OS select Full_x64} {32bit OS select Full_x86 })
  6. Open the CAB File
  7. Look for “UDC_Files_localize_1033” and “UDC_Files_tasks”
  8. Extract the file to “C:\Program Files\HP\<Printer Model>\Bin\UDC_Files”
  9. Rename the “UDC_Files_localize_1033” to “localize_1033.json”
  10. Rename the “UDC_Files_tasks” to “tasks.json”
  11. Go to “C:\ProgramData\HP\<Printer Model>”
  12. Look for “HPUDC” folder and rename it to “HPUDC_1”
  13. Close all Windows
  14. Make sure the printer is Online (Make sure you are able to Open the EWS Page or able to Print and Scan)
  15. Open HP Printer Assistant and check
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Re: HP Printer Assistant Script Error - Officejet 4620

Hi,

I still have the scripting errors after applying several solutions found on this forum to an XP SP3 system. (NB the first script error is as in the original post, the second, see the end of this post, appears in the new "Printer Assistant" window that opens in front of the first error dialog. Dismissing the second error dialog twice results in "String not found" at the search icon and in place of "Dynamic..."). Is there any chance that the .json script problem across multiple OS and multiple HP products results from JRE 7 replacing JRE6 on many machines?

A. Unistall and reinstall of downloaded OJ4620_1315.exe

-- result: script errors not corrected

B. Run from the CD (where X: is the CD) "X:\utils\x86\RemovePreinstalledDrivers.exe" and replace "C:\DOCUME~1\username\LOCALS~1\Temp\7zS....\OJ4620x86.msi" with "OJ4620x86.msi" from the CD

-- result: no window, dialog or alert. TaskManager shows that the process started, terminates after a few seconds.

C. Repeat A. to get back to square one

D. Backup of registry and application of SCLiteFix_299026.exe fix from

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03640384

-- result: script errors not corrected

E. Restore registry and apply manual fix from D.

-- result: script errors not corrected

F. Apply steps 1-10 from the quoted solution

followed by  the XP equivalent of steps 11 and 12, going to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HP\HP Officejet 4620 series\HPUDC", renaming it to HPUDC_1, and finally followed by steps 13-15.

-- result: script errors not corrected, new HPUDC directory created at the above location as expected.

The link leads to the same automated registry patch already applied. However, as I had reversed the change I had made previously and had removed JRE7, I applied it again. The script errors still occured.  An MS update to XP, which affected jscript 5.8, that I applied afterward also did not correct the problem. Neither did installing JRE6.

Could the offending .hta be simplified to call the english language .json exclusively? Could a compiled JAVA version to replace the .hta's be created and distributed by HP?

Not not naming the correct version of IE in a script causes similar errors in other .hta's. So mshta appears to expect variations to syntax version to version. IE has lots of settings even on the trusted zone (I did try low security, btw). It also is subject to lots of variations to configuration due to add-ons and active-x controls. HP could have more control over reliability of its software by a small amount of recoding. What do you think?

Re: HP Printer Assistant Script Error - Officejet 4620

The link goes to the page from which the registry patches that I've already applied can be accessed and the instructions just seem to be about applying those patches. I have posted that I gave them more than a good try, but they have not helped. Was this the link you intended?

Re: HP Printer Assistant Script Error - Officejet 4620

Hi kmar,

If you have applied the patch for the issue on this thread, and you are still having issue this would indicate there is an issue in the operating system on your computer. Have you considered backing up your data, and then run a full system recovery on the computer which will place the computer back to the way it was when you first purchased the computer?
