HP7520 Random Power Cycling

Here is the issue with my new HP7520 all-in-one.

I need leave it on in case I get a fax.  And it does not power on by itself if it's off.

It does this about twice an hour for no apparent reason, including in the middle of the night.

The ink supply is full.

It will randomly wake up from sleep mode and go through the exact same sequence as when just powered on.  (Circle, tones, and printer head makes a bunch of noise).  The PC says "scan to computer is no longer active"

It then sounds the 2 tones that wireless is active again.

Bought my girlfriend the exact same one and hers works fine at her place

Here is my setup:

HP Pavillion P6000 Quad Core desktop

Comcast digital voice cable phone with home answering machine and Comcast voicemail

D-Link DIR-615 router

Windows 7

I have tried the following:

Replacement - this is the 3rd one, and directly from HP

Hard/Full/Semi Full resets

With/without phone lines hooked up

Connected to PC by USB and wireless

Plugged directly to wall and to battery backup

I've been through all the troubleshooting with HP and have had no success.

The event log info I was able to retreive is this.

34     74899     Printer event

33     69556     Printer event

32     74899     Printer event

31     74771     Fax          (I did recently send a fax, and test fax function)

30     74772     Fax

Anyone experience and solve this?  Your input is appreciated.

Re: HP7520 Random Power Cycling

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your HP Photosmart 7520 all-in-one.

Please provide me the following details to understand the issue better:

1. Is the printer not waking up automatically from the sleep mode when a fax job is sent to it?

2. Does this happen all the time when the printer goes to sleep mode, for the incoming faxes? Or does it wake up automatically in some cases?

3. If you send a print job from the computer to the printer while it is in sleep mode, does the printer wake up automatically and start printing?

4. The Printer power module will have a Green LED on it. Does the LED remain lit when you experience this problem?

Thank you.

Re: HP7520 Random Power Cycling

The printer wakes up and responds fine when I print or fax

When the incident occurs, the printer is sleeping

The printer has no green light.  There is a white light (power on) and blue light (wireless on)  They both turn off momentarilly when the incident occurs.

Thanks!

Re: HP7520 Random Power Cycling

Thank you for the information. So the problem with Photosmart 7520 all-in-one is that it wakes up from sleep mode automatically without being asked to.

Please try the following:

1. Print a Wireless Network Configuration Page:
     a. On the Printer Control Panel touch the Setup icon (Wrench icon) in the top right corner.
     b. Touch Wireless and then touch Display Network Configuration.
     c. Touch Print Network Configuration page. The test page prints.

2. On the print out, you will see the printers IP address (example:192.168.1.120)

3. Open a web browser on your computer and type the IP address into the main address bar, the printers webpage will populate.

4. Once you have the printer webpage open, click on "Network" - "Networking" - "UPnP" and disable it.

5. Close out of the webpage and restart your printer.

Let me know if this helps.

Re: HP7520 Random Power Cycling

Before I tried your latest suggestion, I turned off the wireless to see if it still happened.

It didn't.

But of course,  I can't leave my wireless off.  At least now I know it has something to do with it.

I did try your suggestion, and so far,  it hasn't done it for 2 hours.

Thanks in advance if it works.

What exactly have I done by disabiling my UPNP?  What will it affect?

I do print from a tablet and iPhone.

Re: HP7520 Random Power Cycling

It is possible that a device on your network is periodically communicating to the printer, causing it to wake up. Disbling the UPnP can help in that case. I see that the issue has not re-occured.  Please observe the behaviour for couple of days and let me know if it has indeed solved the problem.

Disabling the uPnP will not affect the functionality of the printer, you will be able to print from the tablet and iPhone.
