HP8600 communication error

Have a strange problem.  Have the HP8600 connected (wired directly) to my router.    My XP pro desktop that is connected wirelessly, fails to print with the "unable to communicate" dialog box once the job is attempted to dispatch to the printer.  It has a static IP address so its not changing in any way causing problems.   I've used the "Update IP Adress" utility, and it says it sees the printer no problem.   I can also connect to it with my browser without problem using its ip address. There seems to be no network connection failure I can detect using anything else.

The problem comes on after the XP Pro desktop has been running for a bit.  If I restart, I can get the printer to work.  I've gone through the trouble shooting, turned off my firewall, and used theHPPSdr.exe to check the configuration.   It all reports fine, but when I try to actually print I get the error dialog box while its trying to dispatch the job.

I only seem to have printer problems, everything else about the computer is fine....  Suspect that the printer driver isn't working properly or gets into some conflict with another driver?

Help, I've been putzing with this problem since I got this thing in January.

Your ink alerts are probably causing a communication problem.  This document will help you find the options to change to fix the problem.  Let me know what happens.

Thanks, I followed those directions in the document...  since they require a restart, I don't immediately know if that solved my issue.  I did note that I have a newer version than the range that the directions indicate would have the problem - but I followed the steps anyway.

I'll report back later when the machine has been on for hours....
