L7590 Won't Print Full Black Ink, Darkness is Uneven

I have an Officejet Pro L7590 and when printing I no longer can get the full amount of black ink out.  This happened effectively out of nowhere as I do not remember making any real system changes before the problem began.  There will be a couple areas on the page that appear to be normal, but the vast majority of the page is much lighter.  I have tried cleaning the printheads twice, and tried aligning the cartidges with no change.  I have also installed a brand new (HP) cartridge with no difference in print quality.

I read the article online about this issue (uneven black ink printing) but it seems to be referencing older models since my cartridges do not have contacts like those listed nor are the properties options set up in the same way.

Hi there,

This article should cover the issue you are experiencing. Give the steps outlined a shot and let us know if it helps. As a last ditch effort some have found soaking their printheads resolved issues like this. Check out this post by bob_headrick who has some basic steps for it.

Best of Luck!

Re: L7590 Won't Print Full Black Ink, Darkness is Uneven

Thanks John.

I went through all the steps that are in the article with no luck.  I tried soaking the printhead as described and that seemed to do the trick.  Black ink is back to normal.  I would suggest this solution be offered sooner.

I would add two pieces to that solution, though.  1) It wouldk be very helpful to better identify where the actual jets are on the printhead.  I had an idea where I was supposed to be soaking, but it wasn't totally clear.  2) 1/2" of water may not be enough depending on where you need to soak.

Final bit, not sure how to mark the thread as solved.  Didn't see that option anywhere.

I am glad to hear you are back up and running :smileyhappy:. Thanks for the feedback on soaking, more clarity could help out a lot and you are right about the depth of the water it could vary depending on the printhead being soaked. I can page a moderator to see about marking as solution. :smileywink: Let us know if anything else arises.
