I have exactly the same problem, Officejet 6500 709n. Problem suddenly developed on 02/12/12, printer worked fine one day earlier. All to no avail, I aligned the cartridges, cleaned the printhead, & replaced black ink (that was full).
Another solution that I found on a different tech support site recommended removing & soaking the printhead in distilled water for no more than 5 minutes (removing the ink cartridges first, of course.) I plan to try this final solution before taking the printer in for servicing.
