Office jet 6500 e709n won't print in black

Black just stopped working? I put in a new cartridge,, cleaned the print heads, and an anlignment page fails to print with black ink. Tried all the steps in support and it says service is probably needed. Thought I'd check here first.

I have exactly the same problem, Officejet 6500 709n.  Problem suddenly developed on 02/12/12, printer worked fine one day earlier.  All to no avail, I aligned the cartridges, cleaned the printhead, & replaced black ink (that was full).

 

Another solution that I found on a different tech support site recommended removing & soaking the printhead in distilled water for no more than 5 minutes (removing the ink cartridges first, of course.)  I plan to try this final solution before taking the printer in for servicing.
