Officejet pro 8600 Kills Windows XP Networking

OfficeJet pro 8600, Networked to multiple windows XP computers.

I have 4 different OfficeJet Pro 8600's installed in 4 different locations, bought from different vendors. In every case I get the same problem.

This is a Networking issue. All printers are wired to the network.

The printer is not the cause of the problem. The problem persists even if the printer is off.

The problem is that: When computer is left on overnight, the next morning, webpages can not be accessed, and the network communication with the printer is gone. You can not print and you can not browse.

You can ping the router, ping outside DNS servers, and you can ping Webpages. Only browsing is affected. And printing.

Turning off the printer and restarting doesn't affect the problem. Rebooting the computer does solve the problem.

Killing all iexplorer services running in the task manager solves the problem.

HP support says this is an XP problem and they have no intension of working on the problem. They think it is a problem with network disconnect after 2 hours. They are wrong. I have left the computer alone for over 4 hours and the problem didn't arise. It only happens if you leave the computer on over night.

Windows XP computers have all been updated to latest updates and are running SP3.

Take a look at this link.

Also make sure that the 8600 is using the latest firmware.

Re: Officejet pro 8600 Kills Windows XP Networking

This is your solution.

Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.
Step one: Change the ink alerts setting
  1. Double-click the HP product icon on the desktop, or click Start ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click your HP product.
  2. Under Shopping Resources , click Estimated Ink Levels .
  3. Click the Advanced Settings tab.
  4. Click the box next to Only show me ink alerts when I print , and then click Close to save the change.
  5. Restart the computer. It is important that you restart the computer to resolve the issue.
    1. Click Start ( ), and then click Shut Down ( ).
    2. From the What do you want the computer to do? drop-down list, click Restart , and then click OK .
Step two: Disable the Scan to Computer setting
  1. Click Scanner Actions , and then click Manage Scan to Computer .
  2. Click the Disable button.
  3. Click to remove the check next to Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log into Windows .
  4. Click Close to save the settings.

First restarting the computer solves the problem until the next day.

turning off features of you printer so that it can work with XP is hardly a solution.  I will try tutning off the ink and scanning features.  but these are features that work on previous printers with Windows XP.

This should work with this printer and XP.   I'll check the driver number, but it is the latest that you have on your website.  I'll also check the firmware, but since you tech support says this is an unsolvable problem, I doubt that will help.

Re: Officejet pro 8600 Kills Windows XP Networking

If rebooting the XP computers solves the problem you can always set-up the computers to reboot each morning.

Is this home network?

Re: Officejet pro 8600 Kills Windows XP Networking

These are various office networks and one home network.  Of course that is an option.  Though I don't know how to automate reboot.

The disabling of scan to computer function on the computer solves the browsing issue. but not the printing issue.  And there is HP Network Connection software attempting to connect every few seconds interrupting the computer.

Re: Officejet pro 8600 Kills Windows XP Networking

Here is info on using tasks in XP.

Windows dir System32

program        shutdown.exe -r -t 00

You do know that XP support ends in less than 8 months!
