Officejet pro K8600 is not printing true black, neither in B&W nor colour. Windows 7 64 bit

My photo printing lacks true black whether in black & white or colour printing.  The darkest areas are green / grey regardless of paper quality.

Hello CJB27,

 

Welcome to the HP Consumer Printer Forums.

 

It may be that the black ink is not being used at all (the color ink is "creating" black). To test this, you'll want to print a diagnostics page by:

 

Press and hold (Power button), press (Cancel button) seven
times, press (Resume button) two times, and release (Power button).

 

Once you have the printout, please see the following article for troubleshooting (this article is for the K7000 series, but should work well enough to troubleshoot this issue):
