Photosmart 5514 prints wrong data

Sorry I couldn't think of a more descriptive subject line. I print out a lot of Sudoku puzzles from a PDF page. Every so often it prints something different from what shows in the print preview.  Oddly enough, every time the error occurs there are a couple of cells in which two dots appear. For those who are familiar with these puzzles, you will notice the error in column 2, in which two 4s appear, illegal in Sudoku. Regardless, note the two dots in the cells in row 6 column 4 and row 9 column 6.The dots never print when the puzzle is correct.

How can something like this occur? This also happened with a 5510 model which was replaced by the 5514 for other reasons. I never had anything like this with my previous HP printer which I used for 12 years until a couple of months ago.

This is a very odd problem. Is the problem repeatable? For example, the PDF you show in your example, if you printed it 10 times, would it have the error each time? Or is it totally random each time you attempt a print?

It's random and doesn't happen often, fortunately. But it's very mystifying. When it does happen I try again and it's usually right on the 2nd attempt.

With the information you provided, I have no solid path for you to follow for resolution. I would probably uninstall & reinstall the pdf software (Adobe or whatever) and the printer software. Not sure if either will help, but with a random issue like this, random troubleshooting can sometimes fix it.

I don't know if more detailed information will be of any help. But...

In the grid I posted above the first four rows are correct. In the next five rows, there is something in every cell that should have a number, except the numbers are all wrong. That includes the two cells where the two dots appear; in the correct puzzle those two cells both contained a 9.
