My LasterJet Pro 400 M401dn (New) only prints when computer is rebooted....I have changed USB Cables, USB ports, turned off sleep utility on my Toshiba Laptop. I am using Windows 7. Other printers previously directly attached have worked great.

Within 4-5 minutes of rebooting I am unable to print. When I reboot the documents in the queue print fine.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Julie

Hey JAGSM,

What driver are you using with the printer?  Did you install the full feature driver from here?

Or

Did you install the UPD driver on the same page?

I would try uninstalling this printer and re-installing.  Try both the full feature and UPD to see if it is a driver compatibility issue leading to this problem.

I believe you print spooler is getting stopped or no communication happening between the spooler and formatter.

Try upgrading the firmware of the printer available at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5096260&....

and go to services.exe at run cmd and restart the Print Spooler services.

I rebooted after installing new firmware - that installed. Printer printed one doc in queue, one doc i sent to printer after the gueue doc printed, then 5 minutes later I sent another doc - didn't print.

So firmware didn't work. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Hi,

Try Re-installing the full solution center that came with the Printer.

You could also try with Installing basic driver if you have Windows 7 running in your PC.

Both the drivers are available in www.hp.com.
