HP Laserjet P1102w:

 

When I am printing with this printer, the paper comes out curved in a sort-of quarter-moon shape. Irritating, but not really a problem if just printing a couple of pages. However, if printing (say) 20 pages, it blocks the slot where the printed paper comes out and new pages push the old pages off the printer onto the floor.

 

What is causing this? What do I do to stop it?

I read your post, which indicates that the paper is coming out curved at the edges.
I can help you with this.

This is usually caused by the type of paper being used or the paper type selected from the print driver.

 

Check the power connection. Make sure that the power cord is firmly connected to both the product and the power supply box. Plug the power cord into a grounded power outlet.

 

From the application, go to File, Print, Preferences, Paper/Quality and select a paper type setting for the proper media.

 

Try printing again.

 

Try another type of paper to see if you have the same results.

If the environment is damp, it could cause the paper to curl.

Try a new stack of paper. The new ream of paper has not absorbed any extra moisture.

Where is the printer located? (under a desk, by a window, humidity in room)

What type of paper and weight are you using?

 

Do you see a bit of steam coming from the printer when printing? (this is caused by damp paper)

 

Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.

I have taken the steps you have suggested. The paper used is 80g/m2, and A4 size. I have tried two different makes of printer.

 

I have tried the setting for light and also for plain paper, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. When I am printing a number of pages (say, 25+), the paper comes out very hot. There is though no steam.

 

The paper is on a separate table near my desk, not near an open window, in my study. I have always kept previous printers (all HP) here before without any problem.

 

I do not remember the paper coming out curved at the sides like this when I first got the printer some months ago, but the problem seems to have got worse recently.

 

Before writing this message, I printed a five-page document, and the sides of the paper were still curved rather than flat.

 

Are there any other steps I can take, or do I need to return the printer for repairs under the guarantee?

Thank you for providing that information.

 

The paper weight you are using are within the supported weights. 

16 to 28 lb (60 to 105 g/m² ).

 

  • Check the media type and quality. Both high temperature and high humidity cause media to curl.
  • The media might have been in the input tray too long. Turn over the stack of media in the tray. Also, try rotating the media 180° in the input tray.
  • The fuser temperature might be too high. In the printer driver, make sure that the appropriate media type is selected. If the problem persists, select a media type that uses a lower fuser temperature, such as transparencies or light media.
