Software for HP Officejet Pro L7680 downloaded but will not install on Windows 7 on new computer

I have recently acquired a new laptop with Windows 7 on it.  The installation disc that came with my printer would not work on Windows 7, so I downloaded the installation file from HP and extracted it, but when I try to run the software, nothing happens.  I have tried selecting Setup.exe from the folder where it was extracted, as well as using the Run command.

However, my processor is not an AMD 1 GHx but an Intel M580 2.67 GHz, so this solution will not work for me.  Any other ideas?

Hi Duncan,

Please make sure to install the latest Windows Updates, it may install or update services required for the installation to run.

make sure to repeat the update proccess till there are no more updates available.

Then try following the isntallation once again and check for any change.

Thanks again for your help.

Now I am a bit stuck, because for some reason my laptop cannot connect to Windows update (it gives me an 80072EE2 error), but it was last updated on 29th March, so it is pretty up to date.

When I try to fix the update error, my system does not allow me to add the exceptions to the firewall, as specified for this error (it does not like the wildcards in the first two):

• http://*.update.microsoft.com

• https://*.update.microsoft.com

• http://download.windowsupdate.com

Not sure you can help with this - will try to get the university systems people to sort this out, then try again.
