I have been trying to help a friend who is having problems trying to scan on her network attached (via Ethernet to the router) PhotoSmart C5180. When you try to open the Solution Center to set up the scan, a message comes up saying that an HP device could not be found and Solution Center immediately closes with no options being offered to fix the problem.
Obviously the C5180 is there, because printing works fine.
I tried a complete uninstall of the HP software suite for the printer, followed by a reinstall from the latest available software from HP. No joy. The exact same problem persists.
The computer in question is a Gateway laptop running Vista, with all current updates to Vista installed.
I have never seen this behavior before and am a bit stumped.
