My M1212Mf started displaying "Supply memory error" 9 months in. The HP site suggested checking it for foreign material, and if not, to return it. I returned it, and the new one does it as well. What is the problem? There is nothing lodged in either machine.
It is connected via usb to a Mac running OS X 10.5.8. This machine also runs Windows XP via VMWare Fuzion software. The older machine had other errors as well, such as "10.000 Memory error."

The 10.00.00 is a Supplies Memory Error. This means the cartridge is having an e-label error.
While this error message is present, you won't be able to print or see any information on the supplies status.
Once the cartridge has had this error, it must be replaced. If it happened on a new cartridge installation, then return it to where you purchased it for a warranty exchange.
If you have tried to install another new cartridge, and still get the error, then there is something wrong with the printer where it interfaces with the toner cartridge e-label. The printer will need to have service or be returned.
Did the 2nd printer have the error right out of the box, or did the cartridge work for awhile, and then you got the error?
By the way, did you use the original toner cartridge that gave you the error message on the first printer, in the 2nd printer? Once the cartridge is written to with this error, it will have the same error on any other printer. If this is the case, have the cartridge replaced under warranty, and try this new cartridge in the 2nd printer.
Also, make sure the cartridges are genuine HP. Non-HP cartridges can generate this message.

Thanks; you've solved it. Non-HP cart, used in the old machine. But I had used several from the same company without issue on the old machine. Havent tried the cart. it came with. The old machine had trouble feeding as well, so it was worth returning. Thanks for the help!

When I try to print on my laser jet 1600 I get a "SUPPLY MEMORY ERROR ON MAGENTA" message on my monitor. It was an HP cartridge and not very old at that. I replaced it with another HP cartridge (they aren't inexpensive) but I am still getting the message. It has to be the sensor. What will it cost to fix it?
