Z5200 bad colour range

Hi,

My company has been using Epsons for over 10 years now and we have a fantastic run with them. Recently we came toupgrade our printers and was told by a few different company's that these new DesignJets were great for speed and colouraccuracy so I put my trust in them and went with 2 Z5200's. Since we have had them brought we haven't had much help ingetting them set up and I have been trying to get my head around them to try and get better colour accuracy. 

We use the Epsons to print proofs of wallpaper designs that we have separated the colours using a program called AVA. Thisproblem replicates the overprinting method achived with press printing such as photogravure. The Epson did a fantastic job ofthis and the prints came out perfect in regards what would be achieved on press. 

Since we have started using the HP's though, the tone weights have been way off and there seems to be a high amount ofcolours out of gamma. Especially considering there are colours we are capable of printing through our relics known as anEpson Stylus 7000 + 9000. 

What I am trying to find out is if I am using the correct print settings or not as Mr. Customer Support guy from HP didn't seem towant to know as "the machine isn't faulty its something you are doing wrong"

For reference we use Mac OSX 10.5

Printing methods used for the Epsons

install ICC profile made with i1 publish pro into the CMS used by AVA

send to print using the Epson drivers with the settings as follows

Media type: Photo Quality Inkjet Paper

Mode: Advanced-

Print Quality: Fine -720dpi

Colour Management: No Colour Adjustment

The media we use is Presentation Matte Coated Paper 180gsm

The method I use to print using the HP

Install ICC profile made with i1 publish pro and calibrate the paper for use in the printer (i made a custom profile for our paperand tried it with the standard presets but no joy. At the moment I am getting 'the best' result using the custom paper preset whichwas made by telling the system the best match is Photo Matte Paper) and then put the profile from publish pro into the CMSused by AVA (I have tried a full calibration of paper and colour with the built in profiling kit but no improvement either)

Send to print using the HP drivers with the settings as follows

Colour Matching: Vendor Matching

Colour Management: Application 

Paper Type: Pick the custom made paper made earlier

Quality Options: Custom

Quality: Best

Maximum Detail: Yes

Same media as used with the Epsons.

If anybody could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated as we seem to have been left in the dark about all thisfrom both HP and our supplier.

Hi! The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. The DesignJets are a completely different animal. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support.
