adding #9 envelopes to paper size option in officejet pro 8600plus

I send out mail with #9 envelopes and this size is not an option on the paper size for my officejet pro 8600 plus.  HOw can i add this size to be available to print.  When I try to print one it states that the paper size does not match the printing request.

If your computer is a MAC then you'll very likely be able to define and use a "custom-sized media" setting for those envelopes, as mentioned (briefly) on this HP web-page -

HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Series Printer Series (N911) Product Specifications
(See the "Supported custom sizes" section on that page)

But us Microsoft Windows users are out of luck because the "custom-sized media" scheme is a MAC-specific option!   Although goodness knows why!

Travis_C  has replied to a similar "media size" query with a solution that might help you too!

In his reply Travis gives a link to another thread which explains how to use a printer driver from a different HP printer to get our Officejet 8600's to accept Custom media sizes!!!

It's true that HP warn us that we may get paper jams if we attempt to print on some custom sized media (by using printer driver software from a different HP printer for example) but this does evidently work in some cases. The posts above leave it up to us to decide whether to balance the risks of paper-jams against possibly successful printing onto non-standard media.

I have heard the Deskjet 990c driver will allow you to print on custom-sized envelopes to the Officejet 8600.  This link describes how to get an alternate driver:

I do not know specifically if this helps with the #9 envelope but it certainly helps with printing the #10 envelopes. Do not uninstall your 8600 drivers (it still works for scanning and other media), just select between the two when printing on envelopes.  Sorry it is not an actual fix because it does seem impossible to select custom envelope sizes but hopefully this works none-the-less. Let me know how it goes.
