cranks through paper without printing, finally jams

My C4580 has worked well for over a year, with very light use.  I just changed the ink and now, instead of printing the alignment page, the printer pulls in paper, does not make any printing sounds, and ejects blank paper.  After a few sheets, it stops halfway through a sheet and signals a paper jam.  

 

I have shut the printer off and restarted.  I have removed the ink cartridge and reinserted it until it clicks as usual.  Help!
