When I print an address on a business envelope, the envelope has a grayish tinge all over the front, with heavier graying where the seams are from the back of the envelope. How can I prevent this??

hi there,
could you provide the community with a little more information to help narrow troubleshooting? Things like your printer model and your operating system help out a lot.

This is happening on a LaserJet 1536dnf MFP that we just purchased. Our operating system is Windows XP Professional 2002. So far we have tried replacing the toner cartridge, changing the paper settings, using envelopes that are specifically rated for Laser printers and adjusting the print density to 1. It has helped slightly, but the envelopes still come out with a gray shading all over the front, darking shading where the seams of the envelope show through from the back. Almost like we were copying the envelope and the light shone through, but I am definitely printing, not copying.

Hi KSoil,
Envelopes tend to be harder to print as the media is thicker than a normal sheet of paper. Adjusting the Print density is the only option on this model of printer. Some LaserJet printers have an adjustment arm on the fuser unit to open the pinch rollers in the fuser to allow envelope printing, but this unit doesn't have this option available.
What is the weight of the envelopes you are using?
Type | Paper weight |
Envelopes | 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 gsm) |

Thank you for your input. I purchased 24 lb. #10 Injet/Laser envelopes, which made a minor improvement, but the shadow is still too prominent for business use. However, other problems have developed since with this particular printer, so it is being returned and replaced by another HP MFP. Perhaps we just got a lemon?? Again, I appreciate everyone's coments. Thank you.
