hp 8600 not printing color

I have a Hp 8600 and I have recently changed the black cartridge, the others are the set up ones and the printer doesn't print color anymore, since I replaced the black cartridge (not when I'm copying or from a Word document).I have the printing grayscale off so it's not from the printing preferences.

Re: hp 8600 not printing color

Hello ,

Let me know the following details...

  • How old is the printer .
  • Check for the estimated ink level , by touch the ink drops on the printer's display. Does the color ink show up? if yes, what is the level. ?
  • Did you try making a color copy of a photo ?

Re: hp 8600 not printing color

Thank you for the reply.

Here are the details:

1. the printer has 2 months

2. the estimated level ink of the color cartridges is 30% each

3.Yes, I tried to make a copy of a photo from a sd card and it's black and white and a copy through the scanner and it's also black and white

I must add to these details that, before changing the black cartridge,I made 20-30 black and white copies using the color ink

Re: hp 8600 not printing color

Hello,

Thank you for providing the details.

Please try the below steps..

  • on the printer display, touch on SETUP ( wrench icon ), then
  • touch on, TOOLS, then
  • touch on CLEAN PRINTHEAD.
  • Printer would print a test page, check if all the colors ( Cyan Magenta Yellow and Black are being printed ).

Now try making a color copy and check if the colours are being printed.

If no colors ? then its time to replace the Cyan Magenta and Yellow cartrdiges .

The ink level displayed are estimated ones, the actual level can be much lesser that what you see on the printer display.

Jabzi

Re: hp 8600 not printing color

Hi Jabzi,

I have a new Dell desktop computer running Windows 8.1 and a new HP Officejet Pro 8600.  My problem is that I cannot get the printer to print in color.  When I look under Print Properties I do not find a tab labeled Color as I would expect.  My Grayscale option is set to Off and the option to print all text in black is set to OFF.  My printer is only six months old (didn't install until two weeks ago) and I checked that all of the HP solftware updates are installed and they are.  All four of the ink cartridges are installed and all show 90 to 100 % full as I would expect. I have tried to print in color numerous times and all I get is black and white.  I even tried to print a color brochure and got black and white.  I checked the setup disc that came with the computer and it says Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.  BUT IT DOES NOT SAY WINDOWS 8.1 WHICH I HAVE.  And yes, we did install the setup disc or driver on the computer. I hope you can help.  Let me know if you need anything more from me?  atlantahight
