officejet 5510: will not print; keeps indicating Out of Paper when its has paper

officejet 5510: will not print; keeps indicating Out of Paper when its has paper. where and or how can I check the sensor that indicates whether theres paper in the tray or not? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Hi Slake,
One thing to consider is the quality of the paper you are using. Thin, lower quality paper can trick the sensor into thinking there is no paper when the paper tray is full. This does not mean the paper you are using is "bad"; it means it is possible the paper you are using is not the paper that the printer prefers. Just a possible scenerio.

Oh, sorry, I do not know where the sensor is located...
Consider:
Try some higher quality (heavier bond), super-white, American made paper if all else fails to fix the issue.

Well, it was a thought. Keep it in mind, though. I have a perfectly good ream of good quality paper that my J6480 refuses to use... HP paper, too. Used to take "everyday" paper. Now, not so much. Still prints, but the quality is X#I0#! and sometimes there are lines, and sometimes it just balks.
NOW, the printer wants 24lb, extra white, Super paper. It's an old printer, I give it what it wants. Not everyone is willing to be held hostage by hardware. Smiling. I suspect the printer is in need of some good, old fashioned maintenance -- or replacement.
