hp officejet pro 8500 a909g
Not installed due to not being able to get to wireless setup menu because of paper jam message.
I cleared all paper and pieces
Cleaned all of the rollers accessable
Reset printer heads
Reset printer
Still have paper jam message
This printer was given to me because the office needed immediate capabilities and bought another printer.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I called a HP service center and was told he had ten others with the same problem and the encoder strip was bad and they could not get the part. I called HP tech and they told me the encoder strip could not be serviced by anyone but their engineering dept, because software was also an issue. they offered me a reconditioned printer for $221.99 next day delivery. I am not comfortable with a unit that failed within the second year of service and could not be repaired. Hope this helps someone else.

A similar problem here. I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g that started reporting "Clear paper jam then press OK" last night. There was/is no jam - I've checked paper paths, cleaned rollers and reset the printer without clearing this status. It doesn't even attempt to feed paper ...
Out of warranty. Very annoying. If anyone has suggestions I'd be grateful.

I called HP tech and the encoder strip is toasted. They offered to send me a refurbished printer for $221.00 and my broken printer. The problem is, I can buy a new upgrade 8600 for $216.00. I called the local HP service center and he said he had ten of the same printer and cannot get a replacement part. According to HP tech, it is software on the encoder and they are the only ones that can fix it. I think it is a design flaw and should be a free replacement.

Thanks John for your help,
I found these solutions on my HP site and tried every one of them, but I still have the problem. It appears that the "item" or "part" that feeds the paper (on the inside) is down and will not go back up afterward it feeds the paper (unless is suppose to stay down and I just never noticed it before). So I think my only solution is to purchase a new HP.
Before I noticed the part hanging down I had gone to Best Buy and they told me it would probably cost as much to repair; and that they don't think they are making the 8500 any longer.
Now I have to figure out what to do with a perfectly good 8500 except for the paper feed problem. Any suggestons?
Virginia

John,
Thanks ... I have also been through all the steps for clearing a jam. The information on the website is clear and helpful, but doesn't address the problem that we appear to have in common - there wasn't / isn't a paper jam, the rollers aren't dirty and no amount of resets will clear the fault.
My printer is two and a half years old so well out of warranty but equally well within in duty cycle - I'd overspec'd my printer to ensure a long and trouble free life! Unless someone at HP can come up with a simple resolution it looks as though it will be more cost effective to replace the printer than repair it. And, as Virginia says, it seems a bit of a waste to put an otherwise perfectly good device into a skip ...

If you haven't seen this, it could help you. This is a firmware update, and one of the things that it addresses is reduction of paper jams. This page has instructions and information:
I am a support engineer for HP.
If the advice resolved the situation, please mark it as a solution. Thank you.

007OHMSS,
The firmware update you cite isn't referenced for my printer - I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g; the update appears to apply to an A910g. Do you believe that it is also applicable to my printer?
Philip
