My Photosmart Pro B1980 SNPRB-0504 printer will not print, but it does try to feed. The first sheet is picked up and feeding begins normally, but the sheet doesn't slow down to accept the ink but instead continues out the front of the machine. Usually another sheet is picked up and the same thing happens again. After doing this two or three times the "out of paper" message appears in the display and feeding stops, sometimes with a sheet only partially ejected. The paper tray is not actually empty when this occurs. Device has passed all connection and networking diagnostics. Device hasn't been used for a while, but it has been left plugged in and one ink cartridge was just replaced. No ink is ever deposited on the paper during the feeding observed. Problem occurs with all types of paper, including the best quality HP type. Occurs in all lighting conditions. I'm using windows 7 64-bit.

Hey there. Sorry ot hear about your issue
I did find a support document that is exactly what you are experiencing. Try working through it step-by-step since it is fairly extensive. Please post back with your results so I know if it fixed your issue or not.
Good luck! ![]()

Thanks for your quick response. The support document you recommended addresses a problem similar to mine but not identical. My machine will feed paper, but the machine apparently never tries to print, and the paper just continues out of the machine, and then starts feeding another sheet. I have followed the directions in the document, and none of the solutions listed solves my problem, and the document suggests that it is time for me to get the machine serviced. No doubt the servicing will cost more than a new machine. I am pretty handy, and my machine is out of warranty, so I was hoping someone would give me a little tech assistance so I could fix it myself. I would be willing to pay for information and would not spread it around.

Me too!! I'm in the same position.
Printer well out of warranty and it just feeds blank paper.
Oddly, it feeds 2 sheets fully then it stops with a further sheet half way out.
I've tried the HPHU.exe diagnostic to print a test page so it shouldn't be software related.
Given the low amount of prints I have done (117 A4) this is a really bad error.
Looking around other peoples issues with this model on the web it was a bad mistake to buy one.
I can't even find any service centres in the UK that will take on the problem.
As the inks are so expensive compared to other makes and HP are "BIG" it leads me to believe I will be going to Canon or Epson now, unless someone can help???

Hello jonehorn.
Please, check the latest firmware already in your printer and see if you can update to the latest version, which can be found on this link.
Cheers!
