"cartridge is missing" error message

I get cartridge is missing error message but the cartridge is installed and is new. K850, Mac OS 10.6.8

The cartridge is pretty new, the problem showed up after a recent power outage.

Try doing an alignment.

In HP Utility I tried the alignment but again I get the error message " cartridge is missing".

Hum. How do the contacts on the bottom of the cartridge look? Is there excessing ink or residue left over? Try removing the cartridges and gently clean them with a clean lint free cloth. I found coffee filters to be the perfect tool. Then firmly reseat them cartridges and see if it resolves the issue. I am unsure how relevant the power outage is to the issue but if this doesnt solve the issue we can go more in-depth.

I decided that the cartridge was faulty, so I returned it to the store and asked for a free replacement.  The new cartridge worked.  The old one was not even close to it's expiration date and full of ink.  I did try putting it in again several times.  There are no HP instructions about cleaning contacts, or at least they do not come up under "cartridge is missing "error messages.  Anyways with a new cartridge it works.  Thanks Bill
