when usb plug is inserted, error says "usb device not recognized."

I had this issue with both my netbook and brand-new laptop.  Printer is HP  Mobile 411.  Since it happened with 2 different computers, I feel it is a printer issue.

I need to print but can't.  Help!

No.  This worked on the netbook for a year.  When I asked someone at HP, they said it was the computer.  I thought maybe the cord .....

... scampers off to Amazon ...

I have good news and bad news.

Goood news:  The error is gone!

Bad news:  Nothing prints.  I choose Officejet 100 Mobile 411 printer, hit print and it shows the little window showing progress.  That's it.   Devices & Printers shows big green check mark.  See What's Printing shows doc as printing.  10 min later, nothing.  No printer errors, nada.

Have you tried to re-install the printer using the latest HP driver.

Tells me I already have that version installed.  Still shows status Printing on one, blank on the other

Have you tried runningf the HP Print and Scan program?

Just ran it.  It found no errors.  Ran test page yet nothing printed.

I ran it again while tying this.  Nothing printed.

Can you print a diagnostic page by pressing and  holding the Cancel button for three seconds?

Umm, would that be the cancel button on my printer, and if so,  which button is it?  The printer did work with the old cord, but not all the time.  The printer is not near me so tomorow I can push whatever button you wish.

The computer gives no error.  The printer gives no error.  The new cord gives no error.  Nothing prints ...... it is almost like the printer is getting the mssage to print but ignores it.
