I installed my software from an administrative account but do not normally run my computer from the Admin account to minimize the potential hazards from Internet hackers.
From the non-admin account that I usually use, the printer works fine but the scanner is problematic. When I push the "Scan" button, the scanner tryes to scan the document to the admin user's file folder. Since I am not logged in as admin, this creates a failure which Microsoft intercepts and says that it is due to HP's software and that a newer version may be downloaded and installed from HP.
When I log out of the normally used account (non-admin) and log in as an administrator, HP's software is trying to function normally in the admin account. I can continue to capture the scan but must then manually transfer it to the folder in my other account for use there. When I check using HP's test software, it reports the correct printer and that the driver software is the latest version.
Suggest you build and test your software so that any user of the computer to which the printer is connected is able to scan and use all printer functions without logging in through an Administrator account. This is quite an inconvenience and the software apparently was not designed and tested to be used by any user logged into a WinXP computer. Please let us know when you have software that will function from any user account.
