6280 Scanner Failure - Cycle Power and try scanning again

How many times do I have to do this in order for it to stop telling me the same message?

It started all of a sudden and now I have no clue what to do...any ideas folks?  Hope it's not something stupid I'm doing...thanks in advance for any guidance!

Have you tried connecting printer directly to the wall outlet?

Hmm...interesting possibility...but why did it work previously...I didn't change how it was plugged before?  But hey...I'll try it out...wouldn't hurt

Scanning requires more electricity. Same thing with copying.

Re: 6280 Scanner Failure - Cycle Power and try scanning again

Is that the actual error message appearing on the printer?  Are you trying to scan to the computer or just make a copy?  Have you tested both or does it power up to this message?  Are you able to print?

scanner failure messages generally indicate a hardware failure that will require service

Re: 6280 Scanner Failure - Cycle Power and try scanning again

I have tried the plug straight into the wall but still had the error.  And yes...it gives me the error when it turns on...it's like a diagnostic check that it does and lets me know that it's FUBAR! :smileyhappy:

any ideas?

Re: 6280 Scanner Failure - Cycle Power and try scanning again

Definitely a hardware issue that will need service.  We could go farther in troubleshooting it down to the likely component that has failed however, when they "fix" these scanners, they just put a whole new one on, they don't replace individual parts.  Check the scanner to see if it just has one cable that plugs into the printer body or if the cable actually runs into the printer without a clip that you can undo to seperate the two.  If you can seperate the two - check e-bay/craig's list etc...you might find one where the printer portion is toast for really cheap.  As long as it's not the controller board for the scanner that is installed in the printer that has failed!
